Helen Skelton missing from Countryfile again as fans hit out at 'doom' presenter

Countryfile viewers lashed out at one of the show’s presenters on Sunday night as Helen Skelton continued her absence from the programme.

Helen Skelton has now been missing from Countryfile for a month straight since her split with Leeds Rhinos rugby star Richie Myler.

Helen, 38, had revealed her husband Richie Myler had ‘left the family home’ four weeks ago – it has since been revealed that Richie, 31, has started a new romance with the daughter of the club’s president, Stephanie Thirkill.

There was still no mention made of Helen in tonight’s show as well as no explanation as to where she was. Of course, it could be a coincidence as not all presenters are on the show every week, put the host hasn’t been seen on it since before her public marriage breakdown.

Elsewhere on the installment, fellow presenter Tom Heap was accused of pushing an ‘agenda’ when exploring genetically modified (GM) foods.

He visited a GM research lab which talked about the different ways food could be modified in a lab at a genetic level in order to tackle various problems. Solutions included adding scorpion venom to cabbages to deter caterpillars.

Viewers were told: “We’ve got so many challenges now across the planet. GM could be part of that solution. I think Gm is going to be a step change in how we get more Omega 3 in our diets, in how we make fisheries more sustainable. I think GM has to be part of that solution.”

But another farmer wasn’t so sure, adding: “It’s just going to make someone a lot of money. I just think it’s totally wrong.”

But then Tom Heap added that gene editing is ‘no doubt a powerful tool’ and ‘maybe science could provide some help’.

He then asked ‘with such a powerful tool, is it time to loosen regulations?’.

Fans went on to accuse Tom of being a ‘doomlord’ with his piece on GM.
