Chicago alderman Carrie Austin indicted on federal bribery charges

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago Alderman Carrie Austin (34th Ward) and her chief of staff have been indicted on federal bribery charges.

Austin, 72, and her chief of staff, Chester Wilson Jr., 55, allegedly conspired to receive home improvements from construction contractors seeking city assistance for a development project in Austin’s Far South Side Ward, according to the federal indictment.

Austin is charged with one count of bribery conspiracy, two counts of using interstate facilities to promote bribery, and one count of lying to the FBI. Wilson is charged with bribery conspiracy, two counts of using interstate facilities to promote bribery, and one count of theft of government funds.
